You can’t write a blog without some kind of top 10 list, right?
It’s easy content, plus it’s a quick way to introduce you to the style of cuisine and restaurants I believe are worth checking out in Nashville.
So over the next few weeks, I’m going to pepper this blog with posts about my current top 10. It’s an everchanging list, so I’ll likely add it to the blog menu and come back to it often.
My criteria are fairly straightforward for critiquing restaurants.
- Food: Well, um, was the new york strip tasty and as I ordered it (medium rare, of course)?
- Service: Was the service friendly, prompt, attentive and unpretentious?
- Ambiance: Could I hear my wife, sitting 2 feet from me, speak? Did the restaurant smell like wet socks?
- Focus: Simply put, did the restaurant deliver what it said it would deliver? Or did it seem misguided or unfocused?
- Returnability: Would I go back there? If the four points above are positive, the answer is almost guaranteed to be yes.
Another factor that will play into my reviews, though not into the above five points, is whether or not the restaurant is family friendly.
Don’t misunderstand. I’m not going to roll up into Bastion or The Catbird Seat with my two boys. We know there are some places that you don’t need to take the kids. That’s common sense.
But, these days, it’s a huge bonus to me and my wife when we can have a nice dinner and a glass of wine while the kids eat chicken fingers, pizza or pasta. We’re fortunate that our boys (7 and 4) are well behaved in restaurants, so we’ve been able to find several local favorites that work perfectly for us. More to come on those.
So there you go. Starting Friday, I’ll begin with #10 on my list, then post one or two a week after that until we get to the top spot.
Looking forward to it! See you on Friday.
